IRS Letter to Chapter Advisors

Many, if not all, of you have received or will receive a letter from the IRS concerning the filing of form 990. The letter is not a request for you to file; it is an educational letter concerning a new system of electronic notification the IRS is in the process of setting up. While we at the central office file a 990 listing you all as subordinates, the IRS wants a better way of keeping up with you individually to see if you are still in existence and if you still receive less than $25,000 per year in income. The electronic notification system, when implemented, will require you to file a form by computer each year giving your basic business information and verifying that you receive less than $25,000. We will still file the 990 unless they specifically request it of any particular chapter. They will send another mailing when the system is in place. Information about this notice is available at   http://www.irs.gov/charities/article/0,,id=169250,00.html.
